On Dec.18th, 2008, China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd. held the official opening ceremony for the new ship repair base --Mazhou Island of Yiulian Dockyards. Vice Mayor of Shenzhen Municipality Mr. Zhang Siping, chairman of China Merchants Group Dr. Qin Xiao, president of China Merchants Group Dr. Fu Yuning and governors, as well as the shipowners both at home and abroad attended the ceremony and embraced the milestone together. The president assistant of China Merchants Group and the Managing Director of China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd. Mr. Zhou Zhiyu chaired the grand celebration which was witnessed by the 250 guests.
Mazhou Island was invested by China Merchants Group, started on Dec.16, 2004. It is the first project completed in Memorandum of Understanding signed between Shenzhen Municipality and China Merchants Group on Oct. 18th, 2004. All the infrastructures have been delivered within a remarkable and outstanding time limit, which greatly promotes social benefit and optimizes the municipal industrial structure.
Mazhou Island is covering by a total area of 700,000m2 in the Pearl River delta, the company operates along the coastline of 3,400m berths plus two VLCC drydocks with capacities of 300,000dwt and over 300,000dwt respectively and two original floating docks which can handle vessels of 70,000dwt and 30,000dwt respectively. Based upon a full range of equipments and dynamic manpower, it has accumulated sufficient experiences and technological knowledge in steel work, coating and painting, machinery maintenance, oil tanks’ conversion and offshore repair and conversion.
Successfully operation of Mazhou Island, will gradually build up a world-class ship repair and offshore engineering construction base. Our subsidiaries of Yiu Lian (Shekou) Dockyard & China Merchants Heavy Industry (Shenzhen) Co., ltd. will be reject with full of new life. The production capacity of Mazhou Island will achieve a significant expansion and the profit will also achieve a rapid growth at the same time. This new ship repair base will not only serve the sustainable development between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, but also can solved more than 10,000 jobs, with good economic and social benefits.
